On this first day of the assembly, The UNEP President gave a powerful address to the assembly, there was a well-attended side event, the first by faith-based organizations at a UNEP event and the exhibition stand was very busy and popular. There was also a talk held at Strathmore University. The team have been busy.
Preparation and events before UNEA-2: Nairobi, Kenya
Brahma Kumaris are actively supporting the United Nations Environment Assembly 2016 (UNEA-2) in Nairobi, Kenya. This report describes some of the preparation work and events that have been organised by way of training, talks and exhibitions. It also gives news of a side event called “Exploring the role of the faith community to the Sustainable Development Goals”. This is a break through event being held for the first time at a UNEA assembly. The team also managed to fit in a safari visit to the Nairobi National Park.
UNEA - United Nations Environment Assembly 2016 Delivering on the 2030 Agenda
The UN Environment Assembly (UNEA) will convene for the second time (UNEA-2) in 2016. The UNEA of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) represents the highest level of governance of international environmental affairs in the UN system.
The Brahma Kumaris will be participating in a moderated informal discussion on "Exploring the contribution of faith communities in delivering the Sustainable Development Goals" (Green room, event 6). It wll be focused on creating and enhancing partnerships at local and global levels in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Report of UNEA at UNEP headquarters, June 2014
The first session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) of the United Nations Environment Programme took place at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi from 23 to 27 June 2014, under the slogan “Towards a Life of Dignity for All”, with more than 1,200 participants, including Environment Ministers, Government delegates and representatives of major groups and stakeholders. The overarching theme of the first session is “Sustainable Development Goals and the Post-2015 Development Agenda, including sustainable consumption and production”, which is designed to inform on-going discussions on the formulation of a set of targets and indicators that would succeed the Millennium Development Goals.
Mambers of Brahma Kumaris attended the meeting and gave environmental help and advice to attendees and held a side event to describe the India One solar power project.
